Littlefield High Marching Band

This weekend my alma mater was in town marching in the area contest at the Dick Bivens Stadium. I know they havekam1 the marching contest every year here and my friend Cheryl and sister-in-law Tina have asked me to go with them. I never have made it, but this year my niece Kamille is a freshman and plays the bells in the drum corp. pit, so I made plans to go. I loved band when I was in High School and played the cornet. I was always first or second chair and loved marching the best. The school had to have my uniform specially made and you could always band pick me out of the crowd. The band was really good while I was in High School and we always received a ranking of #1 at all our competitions, both in marching and concert. The contest this weekend was something new to me. The bands did not receive rankings, but scores and after the first round of seventeen bands, only seven moved to the next round. We were on pins and needles as they read the results and were down to the last place to proceed.kam2 Thankfully Littlefield made it to the final round for area. They were to march again at 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening. Kevin and I had tickets to the symphony so we didn’t get to see the final march-down. Kamille and De said the band members had already started crying in disappointment when they were reading the final results as it appeared Littlefield did NOT make it. Then the announcement came that Littlefield and another area school had tied kam4 and they would be advancing to the State competition next week. Kamille said the band was screaming so loud the announcer asked them to quite down so they could finish making the announcements. The band was too excited to oblige this kam3request and kept screaming. Kamille is having a great time in high school and was worried for nothing. Go Wildcats!!!!

I too wasin my high school band. Played the clarinet in various positions. Loved the marching at football games as well. My thanks go to my parents who never complained about picking me from the school bus at whatever time we would arrive home from away games or band competitions.

I am so proud of our band, and especially Kamille! She can really play the xylophone well. I'm sure that being able to play the piano has helped a lot. Plus, she always sets her standards to the highest level and then tries to reach the goal. Thanks for posting the pictures as I didn't get to go to the competition. Love, Mom
